| Motta di Livenza, the other
important town of the district, where the rivers Monticano and Livenza meet also has
remote origins. The 'motte' which characterized the first settling were artificial
embankments with religious and astronomic purposes. Motta di Livenza has some remarkable spots. First of all the Riviera Scarpa, along the Livenza Vecchia's left bank, with noble palaces; the three aisle Cathedral, attributed to Sansovino of the early 16th century, with frescoes by Pomponio Amalteo and G.B. Canal; the 1400s Town Gallery and , just outside the town centre, the Sanctuary of the Madonna dei MIracoli, the town's symbol, with its elegant and sober façade, which was built at the beginning of the 16th century. Inside there are some frescoes attributed to Pordenone and an 'Assunta' by Palma the Young. |
